Jason Bateman to Direct First Feature Film

There are some actors who come off as really likeable no matter what roles they play. They’re people who I think would be cool to hang out with in real life. They include Jason Bateman, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill, Amy Poehler, Will Smith, and Elizabeth Banks. These are people I will support in just about every creative endeavor they make. That’s why I’m so excited to see Arrested Development star Jason Bateman directing his first film, titled Bad Words.

According to Deadline.com which posted Hollywood’s 2011 Black List (a list of favored scripts that were not picked up during the calendar year), the plot of Bad Words is as follows: “The bastard child of the organizer of the national spelling bee gets his revenge by finding a loophole and attempting to win the bee as an adult, only to find friendship in a young Indian contestant.” Bateman is set to direct and star.

Even though we’re more used to seeing him in the straight man role against more outlandish characters, I can totally see him in this. I imagine he’ll bring his usual intelligent charm to what will likely be an unlikeable character. I can’t wait, and I wish him well.

And since there’s no trailer out yet, here’s a random pic Jason posted on his Twitter account. I have no idea what’s going on there, but I want to.
