The Grand Budapest Hotel Gets Trailer and Release Date

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Earlier this week I showed you the new poster for the upcoming Wes Anderson Movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel. Today we get the trailer.

I’d written that the premise, which involves “the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the battle for an enormous family fortune and the slow and then sudden upheavals that transformed Europe during the first half of the 20th century,” didn’t sound completely interesting on first hearing, but now that I’ve seen the trailer, I am all in. Immediately when I see Anderson’s unique hand at work, I feel at ease. There’s just a comfort there, like wrapping yourself in your favorite blanket.

Grand Budapest looks to have Anderson’s trademarked cinematography and color palette in full effect. It also looks like he and the actors are doing fun things with the characters. I don’t think of Ralph Fiennes as a comedic actor, but it looks like he gets to have a charming, buttoned-down sense of humor here, which seems to really fit him. Partnering him with a young and ambitious “lobby boy” looks like it’ll yield some funny results. Trailers don’t often make me laugh, and I wouldn’t even say Wes Anderson movies make me a laugh a whole lot, but I laughed out loud during this trailer. See it for yourself below.

*When I first wrote about the movie I stated that Saiorse Ronan was to play the protégé to Ralph Fienne’s, Mr. Gustave H., but the trailer gives the impression that Tony Revolori as Zero Moustafa will be the one mentored.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is scheduled for release on March 7, 2014.
